Zakuro 柘榴 / Pomegranate
Zakuro is a striking vintage silk haori featuring a dramatic contrast of deep black, crisp white, and vivid red. The intricate shibori patterning creates a rich, textured appearance, with bold red accents emerging across the fabric like scattered pomegranate seeds.
Shibori is a traditional Japanese resist-dyeing technique in which fabric is carefully tied, folded, stitched, or compressed before dyeing, creating distinctive patterns and subtle variations that make each piece unique.
The name Zakuro, meaning “Pomegranate,” is inspired by the brilliant red details set against the monochrome background. In Japanese culture, the pomegranate is admired for its vivid beauty and abundance, giving the piece a name that feels both powerful and poetic.
The graphic pattern, expressive color palette, and fluid silhouette give this one-of-a-kind haori a strong contemporary presence while preserving the artistry and character of traditional Japanese textiles.
Estimated Era: Showa period, circa 1960s–1970s
Material: 100% Silk Shibori / lining unknown
Condition: Excellent vintage condition and both the outer fabric and inner lining are well preserved.
As with all vintage garments, subtle signs of wear or variation may be present and are part of its unique character.
